ABOUT THE ARTIST

My name is Jes and my art is comfort. The goal is to engage with a unique emotional charge through bold texture. I feel handmade textile art is powerful and brings an inspiring warmth to the viewer. After studying sculpture and ceramics the magnetism of textiles in my art has become paramount. I am a full-time self taught textile artist, I enjoy creating original art using repurposed, found and hand-dyed materials in each new piece. Dye plants are grown in my garden incorporating natural dyed fabric and yarn in my pieces. Quilting by hand using thick yarns through all layers is not only an integral structural component but amplifies my own distinctive dimensional design style. In process my needle may slowly travel three to often 8 layers in each stitch. The materials used in my work shepherd a unique esthetic; yarns, velvets, upholstery, and garment fabrics unite to achieve a striking compelling piece.

I am a member of SAQA Studio Art Quilt Associates, The American Craft Council, Arts in Bartlett and The Modern Quilt Guild, my art has been featured in shows including QUILTCON, International Quilt Festival and exhibited in art galleries and publications including Curated Quilts and also included in private collections worldwide. If the art desired is currently on exhibition it will be noted on the listing and delivered upon close of the current show.
